Tibotec Request for Proposal Announcement


Tibotec announces the launch of the REACH Initiative: Research and Education in HIV/AIDS for Resource-Poor Countries. This initiative will focus on supporting collaborative projects between organizations in the developed and developing world by providing financial support for HIV/AIDS projects in resource-poor countries.

This initiative will be managed by a program committee chaired by Dr. Joep Lange: <http://www.tibotec.com/content/backgrounders/www.tibotec.com/REACH_CV_Lange.pdf> , Professor of Medicine, Academic Medical Center of the University of Amsterdam and Dr. Michael Saag: <http://www.tibotec.com/content/backgrounders/www.tibotec.com/REACH_CV_Saag%20.pdf> , Professor of Medicine, University of Alabama Center for AIDS Research, in partnership with Tibotec.

The REACH Initiative will primarily focus on projects that optimize HIV/AIDS treatment and care. Proposals should support research and/or educational projects on HIV/AIDS in resource-poor countries (Africa, Asia, Latin America, and Eastern Europe).

Grant requests should be in one of the following areas:

1. Research grant requests for:
a) Optimizing treatment and care in resource-poor countries
b) Application of new technologies for resource-limited countries or
c) Social and epidemiological research

2. Educational grant requests for:
a) Physician training, with an emphasis on sustainable learning,
b) Allied healthcare worker training or
c) Patient and community education

Areas out of scope include:

- Grants requests for projects in countries in the developed world
- Grant requests falling outside of the scope of the areas listed above
- CME (continuing medical education) program support or conference sponsorships
- Donations
- Research grant requests studying Tibotec compounds or Virco products

Those organizations wishing to apply for a grant from the REACH Initiative should have existing expertise or an established track record of conducting research or implementing educational programs in resource-poor countries.

Applying for REACH Initiative Grant Funding
The process for applying for grants has been broken into two stages.

- Stage 1 - Letter of Intent
- Stage 2 - Full Proposals

Stage 1: Those organizations interested in applying for REACH Initiative grants should submit the following:

1. One page summary of your organization's expertise and track record in conducting research or implementing educational programs in resource-poor countries.
2. One page summary of any partner organizations you will be conducing this research with or implementing educational programs including previous on existing collaborations between your organizations
(Note: A key focus of the REACH Initiative is to support collaborative projects between organizations in the developed and developing world)
3. One page letter of intent explaining your request and the intended impact or outcome of your project

All requests must be received on or before March 23rd, 2007. Requests can be sent either by:
1. Email to REACH@tttus.jnj.com: <mailto:REACH@tttus.jnj.com> as attachments, or
2. Mail to REACH Initiative, Tibotec, 430 Route 22 East, Bridgewater, NJ 08807, USA
IMPORTANT NOTE: Requests received after March 23rd, 2007 will not be considered.

Stage 2:

The REACH Initiative program committee will select a short-list of proposals. Organizations will be contacted by mid April on whether they have been selected to participate in Stage 2.Those organizations selected will be requested to submit a detailed proposal fully outlining their concept. Organizations selected for Stage 2 will be given 4-6 weeks to submit their detailed proposal.

Grant Award Notification

Organizations selected to receive a grant will be notified by mid June. An official award ceremony will be held at the upcoming IAS Conference in Sydney, Australia July 23-27th, 2007.
