Implementing Routine HIV Testing in Correctional Facilities: Challenges and Opportunities
Continuing the series on maximizing opportunities
for HIV diagnosis and access to care, the Forum for Collaborative HIV Research
hosted a roundtable discussion on April 27, 2009, focusing on identifying and
discussing the challenges associated with the implementation of routine HIV
testing in correctional settings in the United States.
Metrics and Evaluation Measures for Monitoring the Implementation of Routine HIV Testing in the U.S.
Following discussions that took place
at the 2008 HIV Summit,
a roundtable on "Metrics and Evaluation Measures for Monitoring the
Implementation of Routine HIV Testing in the U.S." was held to bring
together a panel to discuss the metrics needed
to assess expansion of HIV testing and efforts to link individuals to
care since
the 2006 CDC recommendations for HIV testing for adults, adolescents
and
pregnant women in health-care settings.
III. HCV Drug Resistance Advisory Group, March 2009
The HCV Drug Resistance Advisory Group (HCV DRAG) is an outgrowth of a proposal from the 1st International Workshop on Hepatitis C: Resistance and New Compounds in October 2006.
The 2008 National Summit on HIV Diagnosis, Prevention, and Access to Care (November 19-21, 2008, Arlington, VA) is sponsored by the Forum for Collaborative HIV Research in partnership with the American Academy of HIV Medicine, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, HIV Medicine Association, Human Resources and Services Administration, Kaiser Permanente, National Black Gay Men's Advocacy Coalition, the Office of AIDS Research-NIH, and the Veterans Administration.
Male Circumcision: Evaluation of impact of MC programs on HIV incidence and prevalence
A roundtable discussing the current research, gaps in knowledge, and recommendations for additional research convened by the Forum for Collaborative HIV Research in collaboration with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, UNAIDS, and WHO.
HIV Testing Policies and Models of Implementation of Routine HIV Testing
The goal of this research discussion series will be to focus on developing a unified and supportive framework for routine HIV testing and identifying models for implementing opt-out HIV testing programs.

Male circumcision has the potential to significantly reduce the spread of HIV by protecting HIV-uninfected men against acquisition of HIV infection through sexual intercourse with HIV-infected women.

While the palette of drugs from which to construct a regimen is significantly more expansive than it was in the past, the HIV community remains in need of additional new drugs to treat drug resistant virus as well to ensure safety and tolerability for all populations.
ARV Drugs, Adverse Events, Case Definition, Grading, Laboratory Diagnosis and Treatment Monitoring
Adverse reactions related to the use of antiretroviral drugs may severely jeopardize confidence in the safety of these medicines and alter patient adherence to antiretroviral therapy, not only reducing the treatment efficacy with increased morbidity and mortality, but also reducing treatment programme effectiveness and increasing the risk for emergence of secondary drug resistance.
