PLWH More at Risk in Meningitis Outbreak, Dr. Aberg Stresses Awareness
OCT-17-12  The four most recent meningitis cases in New York City have been HIV-infected males.  PLWH are at an increased risk to both acquire the disease, and to die from it if infected.  Because more than half of people in New York City newly diagnosed with HIV are men, Dr. Judith Aberg advises men to use safe practices and be aware of potentials for exposure.  Read More >>

Press Release: FDA Approves First Drug for Reducing the Risk of Sexually Acquired HIV Infection
JUL-16-12  Today, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved Truvada (emtricitabine/tenofovir disoproxil fumarate), the first drug approved to reduce the risk of HIV infection in uninfected individuals who are at high risk of HIV infection and who may engage in sexual activity with HIV-infected partners.  Truvada, taken daily, is to be used for pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) in combination with safer sex practices to reduce the risk of sexually-acquired HIV infection in adults at high risk.

JUL-05-12  The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMSHA) is now accepting applications under its Targeted Capacity Expansion Program: Substance Abuse Treatment for Racial/Ethnic Minority Populations at High Risk for grants totaling up to $130.5 million over the course of a five-year period.
