Background
The 2010 National Summit on HIV Diagnosis, Prevention, and Access
to
Care (November 17-19, 2010, National Harbor, MD) is sponsored by
the Forum
for Collaborative HIV Research in partnership with the American
Academy
of HIV Medicine, the Association of Nurses in AIDS Care, HIV
Medicine Association, Health Resources and Services
Administration, Kaiser Permanente and the Veterans Administration.
The mission of the 2010 HIV
Summit is to address and support the continued implementation of
CDC's
recommendations for increased HIV testing and to further identify
and build
upon strategies for HIV diagnosis, prevention, linkage to and
retention in
care. In short - to highlight the progress made in the four years
since the
recommendations were released and plan how to move from pilot and
demonstration
projects to sustainable programs.
The program is being developed under the leadership of the
co-chairs
Dr. John G Bartlett (Johns Hopkins University) and Dr. Kenneth
Mayer
(Brown University) and the Scientific Planning Committee
representing
governmental agencies, professional societies, academia, clinical
care,
community and advocacy organizations and the pharmaceutical
sector.
The
program will consist of plenary sessions at the beginning and end
of
the conferences. Separate tracks in Testing, Prevention, Access
and Linkage to
Care, and Measuring Outcomes of HIV Testing Efforts will allow
in-depth
discussion of these topics.
