A Source for Information
Cohorts and databases are a significant source of data for clinical research and have become a valuable tool in the HIV setting. Many of the Forum’s recent projects have highlighted the importance of cohorts and databases, including their role in monitoring long terms toxicities; assessing the risk of cardiovascular disease; investigating the clinical significance of HIV drug resistance; analyzing sex and gender, or race and ethnicity effects to name but a few. Through these projects it has become clear that a great many cohorts and databases exist, that these are quite diverse and that it would be helpful to investigators and agencies alike to have ready access to an information source listing a brief description of each cohort.
The Forum has taken on the task of developing this information source. In this first phase, we have started out simply by listing brief cohort descriptions as they were provided to an International Workshop on HIV Observational Databases, including only those who expressed permission to have this material published.
Together with the International Workshop on HIV Observational Databases Steering Committee, we have developing a questionnaire to facilitate the collection of cohort descriptions in a standardized format. This will improve searches for and access to specific information regarding HIV cohorts and databases. This standardized cohort description format is now available.
If you would like to have your cohort included in this project, please complete the standardized format and email it to info@hivforum.org
